After doing all the observations and interviews, I created user persona and jotted down the pain-points and frustrations gathered in our research phase. The persona created was of a female IT professional. I also listed out her goals and frustrations. 80% of the users who usually stay at timeshare properties stated that they don't like wasting their time on house-hold chores while on vacation with their family.
12.5% of U.S. households were considered to be in smart homes by the end of 2016 — that number is expected to increase to 28% by 2021. The revenue generated by control and connectivity grew by $57.2 million in 2017 to $109.1 million in 2019 and is expected to increase upto $283.6 million in 2023.
Some key points that Marriott has considered while creating the smart IoT rooms: Personal Preferences being the most important key point. The IoT future room will be fully personalized for a better customer experience. If a family has arrived with kids, the walls of the room will have artwork for the kids and a pre-loaded mini snacks bar specially for the kids. The phones will get connected with the frames on the walls and users will see their own pictures in the room which will make them feel more homely and give them a sense of ownership. If the guests have arrived late evening and have had a long and tiring journey before they checked in, the room will have calm lighting set for relaxation and better experience.
